"Buffy the Vampire Slayer": Things You May Not Know About Everyone's Favorite Slayer

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was an iconic series which had a huge influence on television as well as on society. What really made the show stand out was that while it had themes of the supernatural and even science-fiction, "Buffy" was at its heart a show about life. The name "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" sounded like a cheesy B-movie, but in reality it was one of the most intelligent and thought-provoking shows on the air. In fact "Buffy" was so innovative and philosophical that it has been studied in classrooms the same as any classic literature. However, the series didn't begin the way we came to know it. From the small beginning to the lasting impact, there are some interesting things you might not know about "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Sarah Michelle Geller almost wasn't Buffy

That's right, Sarah Michelle Gellar's Iconic portrayal of Buffy Summers almost didn't happen. Gellar auditioned and read for different parts where she was told that she would be better for Cordelia Chase (a role later filled by Charisma Carpenter). As the casting search went on with no Buffy, Joss Whedon noticed that Gellar had something special that would make her the perfect choice for his slayer.

Alyson Hannigan almost wasn't Willow

Originally Hannigan was not cast in the pilot. The original Willow was much different as played by the largely unknown actress "Riff Regan." When the "WB Network" picked the series up they replaced the over-weight and clumsy Willow with the petite and lovably awkward Willow we came to know as played by Alyson Hannigan.

More Alternate casting

If Sarah Michelle Gellar hadn't become the famed Slayer, who might have gotten the role? Actresses considered included Selma Blair and Katie Holmes. Ryan Reynolds was offered the role of Xander and Danny Strong (Jonathan) originally auditioned for the same role.

The original Pilot was never aired, and Joss Whedon likes it that way.

There was a different pilot filmed before the polished network version we have all seen. There were familiar faces like Cordelia, Xander, Darla, and Jonathan, but there was no Angel and no Alyson Hannigan. More importantly, the un-aired episode was not very good. In fact, series creator Whedon stated that the original pilot would never make it onto DVD as long as "there is strength in these bones."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the subject of academic study

The series had an influence beyond popular culture that even lead to college studies of its themes and sociological importance.

MGK Rap Devil VS Eminem kILLSHOT. Who won?

Machine Gun Kelly and Eminem have made rap battles interesting again. With one music video Machine Gun Kelly launched his career to a level never achieved in his mediocre history as a somewhat known rapper. Shortly after its release, the Eminem dis track "Rap Devil." Went viral. Suddenly the moderately successful and not widely known rapper was trending and getting respect from people who had nothing for him before. There were two reasons for the response. First, people don't go after Eminem. His unmatched skill and his devastating lyrical assaults scare off most rappers. The fact that MGK was willing to step up and challenge Slim Shady is impressive. The other thing that makes Rap Devil noteworthy is that it's actually pretty good. musically, it's probably the best thing Kelly has produced, and lyrically he comes pretty hard at Em. Honestly, people were kind of surprised that MGK made himself relevant. Of course right after Rap Devil went viral, everyone wa...

The Misunderstood Problem of Social Phobia

William James (1890) made an important distinction between the 'I' (the private inner self) and the 'Me' (the self as an object of self reflexive thought), and argued that the latter had material, spiritual and social aspects. He famously argued that we have as many selves as there are people about whose opinions we care, and so the self changes from one situation to another. This view was to influence the work of Cooley (1909) who spoke of the 'Looking Glass Self' - a reflection of the imagined judgments about ourselves made by other people (cf.ac.uk). For people with social phobia / social anxiety, this reflexive view of the self becomes central and distorted. That is to say that, in social situations the person with social anxiety becomes fixated on, and exaggerates the perceptions others may have. According to William James, to understand the "me," we may begin by dividing the history of it into three parts, relating respectively to-its constitue...

A Short Biography of Joseph Pulitzer

"Joseph  Pulitzer  was born in Mako, Hungary on April 10, 1847, the son of a wealthy grain merchant of Magyar-Jewish origin and a German mother who was a devout Roman Catholic. He was educated in Budapest. He decided to become a soldier and tried in turn to enlist in the Austrian Army, Napoleon's Foreign Legion for duty in Mexico, and the British Army for service in India. He was rebuffed because of weak eyesight and frail health, which were to plague him for the rest of his life."[1] After two other European armies declined to admit him, Pulitzer joined the American Union army. [2]  This occurred when he met a bounty recruiter in Hamburg,  Germany  and contracted to enlist as a substitute for a draftee, a procedure permitted under the Civil War draft system. "Pulitzer migrated to the United States in 1864 and served in the first New York cavalry during the American Civil War." [3] Pulitzer's claim to fame, however, is not in his military service but rathe...
